While We Wait is a photo essay about a group of eight teenagers living just outside Aarhus. All of them are refugees. And all of them are children, who came to Denmark without their families.

Every day is a step closer to clarification to the question: Can they stay or will they be sent back? When a child without the proper paperwork seeks asylum in Denmark, their age is determined by a doctor, who looks at the bone structure and teeth development. They are then given a new birthday. Ali is now 17, and he is worried he will be sent back when his birthday comes. For now, he can only wait together with the other unaccompanied refugee children at their temporary residence. Ali's name has been changed due to anonymity.
